Artist Statement
Philip Yakushin (b. 1998, Tomsk, Russia) is an artist working with photography, video, and sculpture, based in Vienna, Austria.

My practice explores the tension between holding on and letting go. I seek to reconnect fragments that are falling apart, preserving traces of memory while acknowledging the necessity of release. This process becomes a means of self-understanding, where preservation allows for eventual detachment. Shaped by my experience of migration – from Russia to Germany and later to Austria – my work reflects a continuous negotiation of identity, belonging, and transition. My working process often takes place in the darkroom, where I engage with analog materials as a central element of my practice, experimenting with wax, biomaterials such as mycelium, and chemical manipulations.
